Federighi showed that Apple has actually taken into consideration and is still considering the feature. However, there are several issues with how scheduled iMessage is received that has made Apple hold back on the idea for this particular moment.
The thought for the scheduled iMessage feature would let people draft a text message and deliver it later. If you are a night owl and suddenly remember something important to text someone but realize they are sleeping, you could put the message to deliver in the morning. Scheduled messages are a famous feature for most email services. Considering how famous iMessage has become as a texting platform it could make proper sense to add it.
Apple could also try including a “silent send” option so that the recipient is not alerted to the new message but looks at an alert badge on the application.
Aside from the UI concerns on the way to manage the unsent texts, the feature could also be used for spamming purposes. Also, if someone does not want to get your midnight text notifications they can always put their iPhone in DND mode. It is still a great idea though if Apple could put it in the correct way.
