Can Science and Education Help Eradicate Mass Incarceration

    Mass Incarceration

A recent report by the Washington Post says that out of all imprisoned people in the world, 25% are in US prisons. Another report says there is a correlation between education and incarceration. People that more educated are less likely to be involved in criminal activities compared to the less educated. Experts say the US government must find lasting solutions on how to end mass incarceration and promote education. According to the report, the USA spends almost $70 billion on incarceration. One of the ways to eliminate mass incarceration is to use science and knowlege.

Why can lack of education lead to imprisonment?

Information from Criminal Justice on education and crime shows that an individual’s level of knowlege is directly related to their likelihood to commit a crime. According to the information, a student that has attained a university degree is likely to concern themselves with career-building after graduation.

Students who drop out from high school or complete basic education only are introduced to crime at an early age because they cannot be employed for skilled work, yet they require money to survive. Unfortunately, many government officials do not see any relationship between lack of knowlege and crime.

When choosing mass incarceration research topics, there are several areas you can focus on. You may focus on the contributing factors, effects of incarcerations, prevention, or policies. There are different places you can get mass incarceration examples to help you write better. The mass incarceration essay example will help you get inspired before you begin to write your paper. It is written to help you understand the areas to research more so that you get a better grade.

Mass incarceration does not solve the problem

A recent report by the National Center for Education Statistics shows there is an increase in criminal activities involving both elementary and high school students. The main areas of crimes reported are students shooting others in school compounds, fights, drugs, indiscipline cases, and weapons.

The public education system is the most affected because 80% of all public schools reported crime incidences involving students. In terms of numbers, about 48% of public schools recorded more than 422,800 incidents. This is an alarming number that also serves as a lesson to the education department.

The government, on the other hand, thinks the best way to reduce crime is to arrest as many criminals as possible and incarcerate them. On the contrary, as more people get incarcerated, the police record more crime reports, and more people get arrested.

Science and education are the way forward

The best way forward to stop mass incarceration is for the government to invest more in education. Many experts argue that education can help change students’ focus for life. If the government focuses more on education over incarceration, it will directly help reduce crime.

The Public School Review report shows education and incarceration are directly linked. The report further shows the $70 billion the government spends on incarceration is used on surveillance, detention units, jails, and prisons. While money for incarceration is increasing annually, allocation on education is decreasing, forcing public schools to find other ways to meet their budgets.

Studies by the Bureau of Justice Statistics reveal that two out of every three prisoners released from prisons get rearrested within three years. Prisoners who receive formal education while in prison are less likely to be rearrested after release.

This shows how important knowlege is both in schools and prisons. Students in education spend a lot of time with the teacher. They get different assignments such as dissertations, research papers, course work, essays, and other forms of university writing. Scientific studies in college will train students to be innovators and they will apply what they learn in class later in life.

After their term in college, their main concern will be to put their education into practice. They will either think about investing in a good niche for applying for employment. They will have less time to think about committing crimes. They might likely give their support to help those that are incarcerated or help others not to commit crimes.

Education and the reduction of crime have a direct relationship. While in school, students will work harder for a better grade, visit the library to read a book and focus on the lesson until graduation. Regardless of whether they are studying for a diploma or higher, education improves employability for any student in the entire universe. Many studies have proved that educating the masses will directly help eradicate mass incarceration.
