    After ages of speaking about his ambitious project ‘Death Stranding‘, Hideo Kojima ultimately showed off a full mission’s worth of gameplay during a live stage presentation at Tokyo Game Show this week. It is as offbeat as it can get and meticulously detailed.

    To be released on November 8 for PlayStation 4, ‘Death Stranding’ follows Sam Bridges as he performs a coast-to-coast trek across the ruined United Cities of America. With him is Bridge Baby(BB), a small fetus in an artificial womb that allows him to see BTs, or “Beached Things,” supernatural monsters from other dimensions that are destroying the UCA.

    Sam is given a simple mission: deliver four aid packages from Knot City to Port Knot City. The aid kits contain four supplies that are considered essential in this world: food, medicine, anti-BT weapons, and “sperm and eggs.” Before heading out on any mission, you get to pick out your loadout.

    The difference between Sam Bridges and most other video game heroes is that while they just disappear all their possessions into a magical pocket, Sam is seen visibly loading up his burdens. Everything he takes is visibly appended to his character, affecting his weight and mobility.

    As Sam nears Port Knot City, fighting enemies and overcoming hurdles, the sky goes dark and it begins to rain. And we get to meet BT, a big scary gross monster. Now we are re in a boss battle and Sam can fire the Bola Gun at the BT, but Kojima quickly opts for the Hematic Grenade.

    You have probably guessed what is in that grenade, and you are right—it’s blood. And if you don’t have a “blood bag” in your stockpile, it’ll use Sam’s blood. Why does human blood kill the BTs? ‘Death Stranding’ will undoubtedly explain all of this in a 23-minute cutscene two months from now.
