Jackie Cassettari was inhumanely tortured, beaten and strangled to death. He endured several skull fractures, brain hemorrhaging, broken larynx along with various bruises and cuts.
When a 36-year-old Northern California woman’s body was discovered, there was a rope tied around her neck. To make it more saddening, the deep gash was seen on her right wrist and evidence that she was possibly sexually assaulted, authorities revealed then.
In the present day, after almost a decade and a half since the brutal 2005 crime, her killer is all set to be released from prison. Jackie’s family have made their frustration and anger well known since the news regarding the killer’s release broke out.
“ The least he could endure was to be there[in the prison] till his death,” Jackie’s cousin, Steffanie Cruser, told FOX 40 of Sacramento. “We wanted him to suffer. Just suffer. Never should he have an opportunity to see the daylight.”
But Brian Rainwater, who was found guilty in 2009 of murdering Jackie, is expected to be out of prison in November. He has served just 10 years of a 15-year sentence.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation informed the press that Rainwater will be having an early release due to time served, good conduct and because he took some college courses while in prison.
They also informed that a few charges beyond his manslaughter conviction have been reduced to misdemeanors, the station reported.
Jackie’s family has found the situation even worse when they found out that Rainwater will likely be living in Tracy, the same Northern California city that Jackie’s family members stay.
The family is hoping that authorities will coerce Rainwater to live somewhere else, Cruser said.
“Far away. Not anywhere near us,” she told. “Because no one wants to see his face anywhere. Not even by chance in any store or in the public.”
