    Sony has substantiated that its next-gen console will be named the PlayStation 5, and it will be out next year, inaugurating in time for “Holiday 2020.”

    The company also declared several changes that will be made to the regulator on the PS5.

    Chief among them is renovating the current rumble tech that Sony has been utilizing since the original PlayStation for modern haptic feedback technology that it pledges will offer a “broader span of feedback.”

    The other big modification that Sony is chatting about today is a technology it is calling “adaptive triggers,” which will go in the major R2/L2 triggers on the PS5’s control.

    As per Sony, developers will be eligible to “program the friction of the triggers,” giving the instance that you will be able to “feel” the heightened tension as you draw back aa bulge or force you to push down with additional pressure if you are driving through rough terrain.

    It seems pretty similar to a Microsoft document from earlier this year, which documented a similar trigger system for aa fortune Xbox controller. (it is unclear if Microsoft is scheduling to incorporate it in its next-gen Project Scarlett hardware.)

    Wired received a hands-on preview with a prototype PS5 controller, which it reports looked “a horrible lot like the PS4’s DualShock 4,” although Sony is not confirming if it will call it the DualShock 5 just yet.

    Wired also substantiated that the PS5’s controller will finally be earning the jump to USB-C as well as other improvements like a larger battery and enhanced speakers.

    In consultation with Wired, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan and PS5 system architect Mark Cerny provided some additional circumstances about the upcoming hardware.

    “There is a ray-tracing velocity in the GPU hardware as said by Cerny, elucidating the firm’s original statement of ray-tracing assistance and allaying interests that Sony might resort to software tricks to organize it.

    The Wired interview also substantiates that the PS5 will utilize standard 100GB Blu-ray discs — Sony had previously substantiated that the console will give a disc drive — but all games will have to be established to the internal SSD this time through.
