The opening weekend and just days after the critics’ popularity at the box office, the Universal Pictures Awards are quietly pulling out a bunch of season contenders.

Musical Trainwalk may still receive some award nominations, which may not receive a full award season push by the studio.

Despite the poor numbers and poor reviews, the Cats are not completely overlooked this season.

For two awards cats have been nominated till now. Cats have also been included for a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song for Beautiful Ghosts by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Taylor Swift, and a Golden Reel Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing featured Film for Music.

The Cat hit theaters last weekend and was hit by critics, with the film currently at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It opened for just 6.6 million of the 3,380 theaters in its opening weekend, averaging $ 1,958 per-screen average from a $ 95 million budget.

Cats are based on the 1981 musical, which opened in London’s West End and later moved to Broadway, and was a huge success on both stages.

The Cats continued to perform for 21 years and 8,949, while the Broadway production was 18 years and 7,485 shows.

Cats are now the fourth longest-running show on Broadway leaving behind Chicago Revival, The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera.
