Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris and a host of other female country artists have been a bit inspiration for us in the last few years.

Morris, for instance, paired up with fellow artists Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby to create a supergroup called The High women. They had their self-titled debut album released in September 2019.

“We all still have our solo things going on, but I think that coming together on a project as such in a timely way, it just felt like the correct thing to do,” the “Girl” singer told Apple Music’s Beats 1 host Zane Lowe ahead of the release.

”I’m sure you’ve heard about this very drought or rather lack of women representation on country radio, which we’re trying to battle with this album and this movement. I really felt like I had no alternative but to join because we needed to stay together now more than ever.”

Carlile also mentioned that the group’s aim is not only to make great music, but also to help support one another.

“I think what’s gonna solve the mess is really good music. But also whether or not we’re willing to stand side by side and not compete with one another, keep the door open for other women, and amplify each other,” the “The Joke” songstress said. “The High women movement, it intends to do that. We are hoping that everybody will want to be a Highwoman.”

Many other musicians took a stand after radio host Keith Hill stated explicitly you can’t “make ratings” and have the females played on the radio.

“You gotta trust me, I have played great female records and we even have some right now; they’re just not the lettuce in our salad,” Hill told in 2015. “The lettuce is.mpre is Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and performers like that. The tomatoes are more like the females but that’s the truth.”
