The journey towards motherhood is a beautiful one and sometimes women wish that men could experience it too. While this wish may not biologically come true for most men, some lucky few, the chosen ones can enjoy this beautiful gift of life.
One such man is Freddy McConnell, a 32-year-old proud father, who has himself given birth to a blue-eyed, blonde-head boy and loves him to the moon and back!
Freedy is a transgender man. Born as a woman, Freddy took up this challenging sex change operation and embraced her gender of choice. However, he decided to keep his womb, just in case he ever wanted to experience the joys of motherhood.
The chance came in 2017, when Freddy got pregnant through a sperm donor, even after the sex-change operation had occurred.
A change like this is not easy of course. In Freddy’s words “ What it feels like I’m going through isn’t me having a baby, or pregnancy, it’s like a much more fundamental, total loss of myself”
Though Freddy came out of the closet at an early age and started taking hormones from the age of 25, he had to quit all that at the age of 30 to take his chance at fatherhood! It was psychologically dampening for him since emotionally being a man, he started to show bodily signs of womanhood once off the hormones.
All the sudden change started to take a toll in Freddy’s life, who felt like an alien, devoid of identity.
Though the identity crisis has been waded away, today Freddy faces extreme challenges as he tries to formally register himself as the father if his son. Britain, although a land of great minds and progressive thoughts, falls short to accept this change.
However, the boy and the father finds solace in each other. Even though the world may not understand it, or worse, find it unnatural, that does not make it so. Yes, there will be struggles, especially when you are walking against the tide. But eventually, all will be good and happy for Freddy and his beautiful baby Prince.
