A 19-year-old girl who is a native of Staten Island was arrested in Russia for allegedly trying to import medicinal marijuana from New York to Russia. She was sentenced to some period of time and fined for more than $ 200. She served her sentence and paid the fine before being released.
The 19-year-old girl whose name is Audrey Lorber is a student at New York City college. Apparently, Audrey Lorber was using marijuana medically. She was found at the airport having 19 grams of the substance in her possession and was taken into custody for owning illegal substance.
In connection to the case, the Russian concerned authorities have stated that “patent for marijuana use in a medical program issued in the United States that the accused carried with her does not apply to the territory of the Russian Federation.”
Although we do not have many details about the incident and her arrest, yet we know that she traveled to Europe with her mother and was last seen at St. Petersburg according to her last social media post.
She was taken into custody at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg. If reports are to be believed then her case was taken to the Moscow District Court on the 30th of August. Further, it is suggested that she was given the decision of arrest on the 2nd of September following the court hearing.
She was released from her sentence and custody and she had to pay a fine of 15000 rubles or an estimated two hundred thirty US dollars.
She was finally released from jail but she cannot return to her country yet. She will have to stay there for 10 days before she heads back. In the duration of 10 days, both herself and the officials have the opportunity to appeal the ruling.
