Rory Macdonald did not top Bellator 232 but did not stop talking to the media after the card. In the evening’s main event, former UFC title challenger MacDonald (21-6-1 MMA, 3-2-1 BMMA) lost a unanimous decision to Bellator veteran Douglas Lima (32-7 MMA, 14-3 BMMA).
Swallowing a hard bullet, McDonald assessed his performance and said he believed he had lost to Lima. While he was in the cage, Macdonald thought he was ahead on the scorecard.
If he had done some things differently, Macdonald indicated that things would have ended more favorably.
MacDonald said, “Well, I thought I had good moments.” “It was close to every round. I think what I should have been doing was raising the gas a little more.”
I felt that when I had good moments, I bounced back, let it recover and I just did a lot Something left. Instead, I put it on. Feet on the gas pedal a while back.
“I was comfortable with where I was in the fight. I was confident – far more confident than I needed to be in scoring. The round just went away from me. Every round was tight though. I too Wasn’t very down. Just obviously I could do a little bit more during the fight. ”
Despite jerseys online from some fans regarding the new ardent religious beliefs, McDonald said he would continue to put forward his faith in God.
If it were not for the pursuit of Christianity, McDonald said it would be very difficult to try at times, such as his Belvan 232 loss.
“I think they have a bad outlook on it,” Macdonald said of the criticism.
“After losing time, I shouldn’t talk to you. But, I’m blessed and I know that God has good things for me. Losing a fight doesn’t change my faith or outlook on God. I know that I have good plans and as my song says, I’m going to see a win, whatever it may be. ”
The Belmont 232 headliner was the second meeting between Lima and Macdonald. Both attended Belter 192 in January 2018. After five rounds, McDonald’s was declared the winner by unanimous decision.
With a series of once-in-a-lifetime series, McDonald believes it is inevitable that the two welterweights will meet again shortly. But first, McDonald’s needs to rejoin Bellator, as he has revealed his contract with Promotions.
“It’s very likely (we rematch),” McDonald said. “We had to stop the quarrel. He won one, I won one. Inevitably, we will probably fight again … I wouldn’t say if they want to do it, they can. First I had to sign in again. My contract expired. We have to deal with that situation. If they want to give a title shot.”
Better 232 took place on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The main card was streamed on DAZN after prelims on MMA Junkie.
