The 43-year-old actor closed The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday and opened up about a “slightly creepy” moment in Brazil when a barricade came down.
“I was not drunk!” Reynolds quipped on his quick reflexes during the incident. It felt like slow motion, though, because you see they’re falling and you’re thinking, ‘Oh my God someone’s going to get hurt.’ And you can see that they’re all the same, like, they’re gonna go down, they’re gonna be alright. And it was like, ‘My legs won’t heal.’ So I jumped back and landed on the talk. It happened fast. ”
While Reynolds has been praised for his swift response at the moment, Carey, who can be seen in the background of the video, seemed to be more focused on protecting his drink than checking in on his co-star.
“The one who is behind me with stranger things. He’s in my film, Free Guy, that we were there,” Reynolds explained. “You should see this back. You can see him saving his drink. He’s not worried about [me]. The guy is uncomfortable for the word hero.”
Speaking to ET’s Rachel Smith, Reynolds revealed how the incident occurred in Brazil – which he said “looked worse” – almost caused him to break a promise from his wife, Blake Lively.
“My only job that Blake said I was leaving was to just come home in one piece. So that was my only job,” he said. “… I [broke my promise to Blake]. I almost messed up.”
“But you know what? I was mostly worried about those guys, and they were fine. They went down,” the 6 Underground stars continued. “To them, it sounded rather pleasant, but I got the hell out of time. But everyone was fine, and that’s all that matters.”
