The King Of Rock n’ Roll will be returning to your screens soon but this time, he’ll be animated. On 16 August, the 42nd anniversary of the Icon’s death, Netflix announced ‘Agent King’, an adult animated comedy series featuring The King himself.
The series is going to be executive produced by Priscilla Presley, Elvis’s ex wife, rock singer John Eddie in partnership with Sony Pictures, Authentic Brands Group and Nteflix.
Former Archer writer Mike Arnold will write and will also serve as the showrunner.
The animated series will see Elvis trade in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
“From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world! Agent King lets him do just that,” co-creator Priscilla Presley said. “My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”
Legendary designer, John Varvatos will custom design Elvis’ entire wardrobe for the series. Longtime Presley associate Jerry Schilling will be a consultant on the series.
The series merges concepts behind both Marvel and DC legends as well as the mythology of The Gong Show‘s Chuck Barris.
Netflix already has a long list of adult animated series like BoJack Horseman; Big Mouth; Disenchantment; F Is for Family; Love, Death & Robots; and Paradise PD, along with the forthcoming The Cuphead Show, Hoops, Inside Job, Q-Force. Hopefully, Agent King will be a huge addition to this list.
Netflix’s announcement comes at the end of “Elvis Week,” a Graceland celebration of Elvis’ music, movies and legacy.
No official release date has been announced yet.
