Ricky Gervais is preparing to host the 77th Golden Globe Awards, but before he took to the stage on Sunday, he recently clarified a joke, which he says was misunderstood.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, the comedian criticized what he thought was somehow transphobic.
Last month, the 58-year-old responded by tweeting on the parody account are JarvisDupont.
“You don’t understand how horrible biological women are to be the most loving woman in life right now,” Gervais wrote. They accept the privileges of their sport, winning women’s games and having their own toilet.
Speaking of trans women, I thought I was no longer welcome in a virtual school because the magicians destroyed me.

What does a CIS woman like rowing know about a woman in any case? She doesn’t like the struggles we go through
Those wonderful biological women will never understand what it means to be a woman you love so late in life. They accept their fall rights. Winning women’s games and building their own toilets. Okay, enough.
The tweet was met with immediate criticism from some users. Gervais told THR that his tweet was intended to be a parody of Jarvis Dupont’s play with the “spoof” character of a transgender.
“And that’s the problem,” Greaves continued. “You say, ‘Listen, I’m quirky. It’s a joke.’ But this isn’t always enough for people. They go, ‘Well, why are you quirky?’ “The nature of Twitter is,” he says, “there is no nuance; it is out of context forever.”

Gervais also addressed another of his jokes, which drew backlash. While hosting the Globe in 2016, TV personality Katelyn Jenner commented on a woman who was murdered in 2015 over a polycarbonate accident.
“Now, Katelyn Jenner,” it’s been a year. She has become a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great courage in overcoming obstacles and destroying stereotypes. I didn’t do much for it. Driver, but you can’t have everything. ”
In his THR interview, Greaves addresses whether he thought the joke was “misunderstood” about Jenner.
“I was very careful that there was a joke that he was a very bad driver,” he said. “The joke is about stereotypes.”
According to Variety and Entertainment Weekly, Jenner responded to Gervais’ pinch at the Television Critics Association that year.
While hosting the last Globes, Gravis was in contention for Jovis about Mel Gibson’s drinking, Angelina Jolie’s alien adoption, and other celebrities, including the voices of Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas.
The return of Ricky Gervais as the fifth and ‘last time’ Golden Globe host (he swears!)
“I go after the movie and I go after the television and I go along with the actors and I go after deceit and deceit,” he said.
“Do you know what I mean? I go after big, monotonous things that seem to not pick any single person. I always point to someone and say, You’ve had a bad year. Friend, you know?”
