Wattpad doing everything to expand its global audience — and potential domination in the global market for creating foreign-language TV series and film. The new entrant to the famous Wattpad’s list of collaborators is Wise Entertainment, the indie studio that produced the Emmy-nominated series East Los High.
The agreement gives Wise Entertainment, which has offices in Los Angeles and New York City, the sole first-look rights to adapt Wattpad stories into Portuguese based film and TV projects for global distribution.
With Wise, Wattpad will look to make Portuguese-language Wattpad stories as TV series and films for the people in Brazil. This deal marks Wattpad’s first huge presence felt in Latin America.
Wise Entertainment is famous for content that narrates the tales for and by the underserved audience. They also host an IP incubator in the country and will partner with Wattpad to create superior teen and YA projects for Brazilian viewers with local writers and producers.
This deal, like other Wattpad global deals, makes room for Wise to get access to Wattpad’s mix of creative expertise and Story DNA Machine Learning Technology.
Wattpad is known for its outstanding record of adapting hit stories for the screen. Wattpad has created Hulu’s Emmy-nominated series Light as a Feather from author Zoe Aarsen.
They were also behind Anna Todd’s After from Anna Todd and Netflix’s The Kissing Booth authored by Beth Reekles.
Apart from Wise Entertainment, Wattpad has major partnerships and upcoming projects with a wide array of partners including Sony Pictures Television, Viu, Mediacorp, NL Film, Mediaset, SYFY, Huayi Brothers Korea, eOne, Lagardere Studios, iflix, Bavaria Fiction, CBC and others.
Wattpad, founded in 2006, has a platform that allows rookies to publish their own tales. In recent years, the growth of the platform has been unprecedented. Its potential is huge in the digital age of viewership as per the market analysis. Their presence will only be felt more in global markets in the coming years.
