Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced new characters to the audience. Among the most prominent, in addition to Ego (played by Kurt Russell), was Mantis, the tender and funny telepath who accompanies Drax during much of the film. The chemistry and comedy that these two characters saw on screen was the best criticized of the sequel and apparently, director James Gunn would like to further explore the dynamics between these two aliens, as he had the idea of making a movie of Drax and Mantis.
This was revealed by Dave Bautista, who in an interview with Collider Videos, talked about the director’s plans. When the actor was asked if he would be willing to make a series for Disney + focused on his character, his response was negative, as it takes many hours to apply the necessary makeup to give life to the alien warrior.
However, he said that something he would be willing to do is a solo film of the aforementioned characters, for which Pom Klementieff was also contemplating James Gunn had the idea of making a Drax-Mantis movie.
For that, it would be available because it is something so fun to do. He wanted to do it, but Marvel already has a lot on his agenda for the next few years and they already knew how they wanted to do things. It is very difficult for them to say ‘Yes, of course. Let’s make this story and insert it here! ‘ It didn’t fit his plans. ”
Both Mantis and Drax are scheduled to return in the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki and Sean Gunn. The sequel was delayed due to Disney’s initial decision not to hire Gunn as director. In that inter, Gunn agreed to get behind the scenes of The Suicide Squad for DC. For that reason, we will have to wait to learn more details about the new adventures of the Milano crew.
